afridi1New Delhi, Thursday, March 17 – Pakistan came in form when needed defeating Bangladesh by 55 runs in a Super 10 match where each victory has a lot of meaning thanks to the points earned at the end of the day. Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi won the toss and decided to bat first. Ahmed Shehzad, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Amir were in the squad that had to face off against Bangladesh.

The players on bench were Anwar Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Sami and Khalid Latif. Despite the fact that they did not get opportunity to perform in yesterday’s game against Bangladesh, things may be different during remaining contests of the ongoing tournament. Bangladesh Playing XI included Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Mohammad Mithun, captain Mashrafe Mortaza, Arafat Sunny, Taskin Ahmed and Al-Amin Hossain. Whereas, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Nurul Hasan and Abu Hider watched each happening of the game while sitting on the seats. The match was hosted in Eden Gardens, Kolkata a day ago.  The crowd support was not huge but whoever was present at the venue made sure to enjoy every bit of it.

Sharjeel Khan was dismissed early by Sunny but his knock of 18 runs came in just 10 balls and included a four and two sixes. Ahmed Shehzad played a useful knock of 52 runs off 39 deliveries including eight fours before giving his wicket to Rahman. Mohammad Hafeez added to speed of scoring runs as he played an innings of 64 runs in 42 deliveries, comprising seven 4s and two sixes. Soumya Sarkar took his catch in Sunny’s over, making Bangladesh heave a sigh of relief. But that did not last for long at all as Shahid Afridi was in a totally different mood. He fell one run short to pocket a fifty but his attention-fetching knock came in only 19 balls, together with four 4s and same number of sixes. Taskin Ahmed  took his wicket but Pakistan were already in a strong position.

Umar Akmal was out for a duck, while Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim were not out at 15 runs and 0 run, respectively. 201 runs for the loss of 5 wickets were enough to send rivals on the back seat. Pressure was felt by Bangladeh deeply and this got proved when opener Soumya Sarkar was out at a zero by Amir. Sabbir Rahman was next to depart and Afridi was the man who bowled a beautiful delivery. 25 runs, with five boundaries, were scored by Rahman. Tamim Iqbal hit two sixes but before he would have made his innings big, Afridi ended the knock at 24 runs. Shakib Al Hasan was not out at 50 runs (4 x 5 and 6 x 1) but couldn’t get support from other end. Mahmudullah was out by Imad Wasim at a score of 4. Mushfiqur Rahim totaled 18 runs in 21 deliveries and struck three boundaries prior being sent back to the dressing room. Mohammad Mithun was dismissed at two runs.  Mashrafe Mortaza was unbeaten at 15 runs, which consisted of a six and four. Bangladesh only managed to pile up 146 runs in 20 overs, giving Pak a chance to enjoy the feat.
