No Respite from Icy Winter Probable as Morning Showers Add to Frostiness

January 02
15:01 2015

fogNew Delhi, Friday, January 2 – December ended on a soft note. The month wherein people witnessed massive fog on most of the days came to an end with plenty of sunshine. The New Year kicked off being sunlit but partly cloudy days made one point clear that rains, fog and more iciness are on the cards. This got proved on Friday morning when light showers brought discomfort for the masses.

Rain lashed several streets of Uttar Pradesh on January 1 for the entire day. Residents of the national capital were expecting comfort and not to experience the shiver which increases all of a sudden thanks to untimely rainfall. However, scenario is likely to change for next 2 to 3 days. Temperature in the region of the Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurgaon will dip, complicating daily survival of the general public. The level of iciness will be worsened further by cold wind that’s anticipated to blow at the pace of 13 to 16 km per hour.

The picture in the shelter homes may be more troublesome due to overcrowding. Many homeless tried not to come in ‘rain baseras’ since they were more inclined to sleep on the roadside and under the bridge. But as cold sets in with drizzle, efforts are being made to get permission of residing inside nearby night shelters. If latest recent reports are to be trusted then the approximately 15 to 20 extra men, women & children are adjusted in a room holding capacity of 40 to 50 people. No instant relief from biting cold is visible for the underprivileged who even do not have proper clothes to dress themselves in layers and stay clear of dipping temperature.

In view of the fact that mercury is expected to drop more on Saturday, with the probability 70 per cent precipitation and 85 per cent humidity, Delhiites want bonfires to be lit everywhere. “Easy survival is getting difficult not only for the inhabitants but also for the stray animals. Something should be done to save them from bone-chilling cold”, said a bunch of teenagers who added to the chorus for lighting public bonfires.

The intensity of the sunbeams will decrease in the coming days for the reason that sun is to hide behind the clouds. The renowned doctors of the metropolitan city ask dwellers to be covered and stay inside if it is not too important to go out. Several schools of Delhi and NCR regions have been shut up till January 10. The spells of shower are probable to affect smooth running of the vehicles on the roads, causing traffic jams especially during the peak hours. Waterlogging in major areas will cause huge trouble for the locals at the same time.
