Scotland fans are set to enjoy a Euro 2020 party at Glasgow Green after a free fan zone was given provisional approval.

Up to 6000 supporters will be able to book tickets for the outdoor space when the tournament kicks off in June.

Punters will be able to watch matches in the mostly seated venue, including Steve Clarke‘s side and their showdowns with Czech Republic, England and Croatia.

The Scottish Government has green-lighted plans for the largely seated outdoor space “subject to the state of the pandemic nearer the time”.

It comes after UEFA last month signed off plans allowing 12,000 spectators to attend Hampden Park its four host clashes, meaning the national stadium will be operating at about 25 per cent capacity.

Scotland start their first major tournament in 23 years at Hampden against the Czechs on June 14.

A statement from the organisers described what fans can expect: “The outdoor Fan Zone will be a largely seated venue and will be subject to relevant physical distancing requirements.

“Plans for the Fan Zone and the status of the pandemic will continue to be monitored in the run up to the tournament.

“As well large screens showing all UEFA EURO 2020 matches there will be a 10m Festival Tower hosting a range of sporting, cultural and digital content.

“There will be a range of food and beverages showcasing the very best of Scottish produce, and a family friendly sport activity programme will be in place at the Fan Zone encouraging participation in physical activity. This will include a multi-use sports pitch where community groups which have been part of the UEFA EURO 2020 Glasgow ‘Play Your Game’ football programme across the city will be part of the celebrations.

“The pitch and other sport activations will also provide opportunities for spectators to take part in a range of sports, offering something for everyone.”

David McDonald, deputy leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “We are delighted that the Scottish Government has given approval for the Uefa Euro 2020 fan zone at Glasgow Green to take place, subject to the status of the pandemic nearer the tournament, hopefully enabling the city to play its part in the wider event celebrations.
